미육군, M109A7 Paladin 자주포 1&2차 초도생산(LRIP) 종료

미육군이 BAE Systems과 USD2억 4,530만 불(USD245.3 million)에 계약한 M109A7 Paladin 자주포와 M992A3 탄약차량의 '초도 소량생산(LRIP:low rate initial production)'의 추가분 생산이 곧 종료될 것이라고 밝혔다.

M109A7 Paladin 자주포 프로그램은 그동안 PIM(Paladin Integrated Management)으로 불리기도 하였다.
​
M109A6 Paladin과 가장 다른 특징은 M-2 Bradley 보병전투차(IFV: infantry fighting vehicle)의 차체와 구동열(보기륜)을 채택했다는 점이다.

또한 디지털시스템과 신형탄약장전시스템용으로 탑재된 발전기가 600V 짜리로 바뀌었다.

이 계약은 2015년 10월 30일 체결되었고 2015년 11월 2일 BAE Systems이 밝혔다.

미육군의 M109A7 Paladin 자주포 프로그램은 현재 매우 신중하게 진행되고 있다.

2013년 10월 BAE Systems은 2개의 옵션 중 첫번째 분인 36대의 '초도 소량생산LRIP)'을 2014년에 수행하는 1년짜리 기본 계약을 체결했다.

그후 미육군은 2015년 4월 공식적으로 M109A7 자주포의 첫번째 생산 차체를 인수하기 시작했다.

이번에 맺은 계약은 2개의 옵션 중 2번째에 해당하는 30대의 M109A7 자주포를 일년 내에 생산하는 계약이라고 BAE Systems 관계자가 2015년 11월 2월 밝혔다.

2번째 '초도 소량생산LRIP)'에는 현재 운용중인 M992A2 탄약차량을 대체할 M992A3 탄약차량의 생산이 포함되어 있다.

M109A7 Paladin SPH (formerly PIM). (IHS) The US Army has exercised an option with BAE Systems worth USD245.3 million for more M109A7 Paladin self-propelled howitzers (SPHs) and M992A3 ammunition carriers, which will complete low-rate initial production (LRIP).

M109A7 Paladins, formerly referred to as the Paladin Integrated Management or PIM programme, represent a significant upgrade from the M109A6 Paladin by retaining the legacy SPH's main armament and cab but replacing its chassis and drivetrain with one common to the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle. The A7-model also adds 600 V of onboard power generation as well as a digital backbone and a more advanced projectile ramming system.

The contract was awarded on 30 October and announced by BAE Systems on 2 November.

The programme has progressed deliberately. In October 2013 BAE Systems was awarded a one-year base contract and the first of two options to produce LRIP vehicles in 2014. The US Army officially began receiving its first production-model M109A7s in April 2015.

"The current exercise is for the second option year to produce an additional 30 sets," BAE Systems explained in a 2 November statement. A vehicle set includes one M109A7 SPH and one companion M992A3 Carrier Ammunition Tracked (the latter replaces legacy M992A2 ammunition carriers).

"With all two options exercised, BAE Systems will deliver a total of 66 vehicle sets plus one additional SPH and associated kits, spares, and technical documentation to complete the LRIP phase," the company said.
