(워싱턴·도쿄=연합뉴스) 심인성 김정선 특파원 = 미국 해군의 이지스 구축함 '피츠제럴드'가 17일 새벽 일본 인근 해상에서 필리핀 컨테이너 선박과 충돌했다고 AP통신과 교도통신 등이 전했다.


미 해군은 성명에서 이같이 밝힌 뒤 일본 해안경비대에 도움을 요청했으며, 피해 규모는 파악 중이라고 설명했다.


보도에 따르면 이날 오전 2시 30분께 시즈오카(靜岡)현 미나미이즈초(南伊豆町) 주변 약 20㎞ 인근 해상에서 필리핀 컨테이너 선박으로부터 요코스카(橫須賀)기지를 거점으로 하는 피츠제럴드함과 충돌했다는 신고가 해상보안본부에 접수됐다.

교도통신은 해상보안본부를 인용해 피츠제럴드함 승무원 7명이 행방불명됐다는 정보가 있어 순시선과 항공기가 주변을 수색하고 있다고 보도했으며, NHK는 이들 7명과 현재 연락이 이뤄지지 않고 있다고 전했다.


통신은 피츠제럴드함 오른쪽 측면이 손상됐지만, 필리핀 선적과 마찬가지로 침몰할 가능성은 없으며 연료 유출 또한 없다고 보도했다.


피츠제럴드함은 길이 154m에 총 8천315t 규모이며, 필리핀 컨테이너 선박은 길이 222.6m에 2만9천60t 규모다.


일본 해상자위대 헬기도 현장에서 구조활동을 벌이는 것으로 알려졌다.
